Roland Mechael is an award-winning Filipino-American artist/Illustrator. He won the PBBY Illustrator’s Prize from the National Library of the Philippines which led to an illustrious career in the field of animation, video games, toy design and fine arts. He started working as an animator for Hanna-Barbera subsidiary, Fil-Cartoons Inc., working on TV shows like Flintstones, Droopy, Pirates of the Dark water, Darkwing Duck & Captain Planet before moving to Los Angeles California and worked at 7th Level Inc and studied at the Associates in Arts to further advance his career in animation at Walt Disney Feature Animation and getting film credits for The Legend of Mulan, Lilo and Stitch, The Lion King(DVD Edition), Pocahontas(DVD Edition), John Henry, and Brother Bear.
After Disney, he moved on to Electronic Arts where he worked as a storyboard/concept artist for PlayStation games, including Superman Returns. He got his first credit as a character designer for Superbook’s David and Goliath and as environment designer for Adam and Eve. Recent works include concept art and character designs for the Netflix TV series The Beat Bugs, and product and toy designs for the Skylanders of Activision.
Roland Mechael is now based in Chicago as an independent freelance artist specializing in the field of Visual development/Concept Art . His recent clients include Sony, Illumination, Activision, Electronic Arts, Lucasfilm, Disney, DreamWorks, Warner Bros., DC, Marvel, 20th Century Fox, Sanrio, Mattel and Hasbro. A lifelong learner, he keeps his art and figure drawing skills honed at St. Benedictine University in Chicago. His love for wildlife and painting motivates him to create art in order to protect endangered species. He’s an avid supporter of the World Wildlife Fund.
